The Holiday Mantel

fireplace mantel with holiday decor

In many homes, the fireplace is one (if not the) focal point especially during the holidays. As a main feature of the home since about the Middle Ages, here are some tips for decorating your fireplace mantel to complement its architecture and design – albeit wood, stone, tile, or brick.

·         Traditional: Wreaths, greenery, and blooms are classic décor for carved and ornate mantels.

·         Farmhouse: Layering and staggering a series of distressed wooden pieces like window panes or lanterns in different sizes is a perfect complement for this organic look.

·         Contemporary:  Shiny metal objects like tall, slender candle sticks and vases with different finishes are perfect for this style which typically has a minimalist mantel.

Add artwork or mirrors to scale and style to complement these accents. Mimicking these design tips on the cocktail table facing or adjacent to the fireplace makes for a cohesive look and feel.

Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa (or anything else) let the mantel make your holiday statement.
