Back-to-School Transition on a Mission

back to school written on a chalkboard

After a long summer of loose schedules and leisure days transitioning back to school can get off to a rocky start, but not just for the children. Make it a smoother transition for you, as the parent, by easing into it well before the first day school bell rings.

·         Address any anxiety the child may be experiencing by talking with them about their fears and concerns. A children’s book about going back to school can help you find the right words to help them express themselves and put them more at ease.

·          Start developing a back-to-school routine about a month beforehand so waking them up and putting them to bed isn’t so stressful. Make it fun and reward them for cooperation and being on time, both day and night.

·         Get them excited about their favorite subject like art or science by creating at-home projects. These are perfect show and tell time too.

And when the first day arrives, send them off with a lunch box note of love and encouragement. Do it daily the first week, then once a week, then once every two weeks, then as needed to manage any recurring angst or challenges.
